Education in the field of lighting design has been part of our portfolio for more than ten years now and our Educational Events Division is now well established in this sector.
VIA Publishing organizes lighting design workshops for the Professional Lighting Designers' Association, PLDA. The experience from more than 50 workshops shows what impact participation in a PLDA workshop can have on the professional development and career of young designers. PLDA workshops are appreciated and acknowledged in the lighting industry worldwide as high quality educational events. Six international, professional lighting designers guide the workshop participants through the week to create and realise a lighting design concept on a real project. After the workshop, the installations are handed over to the host town and remain there for three to four weeks as an exhibition of good lighting. Tens of thousands of visitors are registered by the host towns and cities during their "light weeks".
PLDC, the largest global convention on lighting design, with more than 1200 visitors is also organized by the Educational Events Division of VIA Publishing. PLDC is a forum for lighting designers, architects, building owners and lighting manufacturers. Every two years, professionals from all over the world gather to discuss new trends and to make a further step towards the establishment of the lighting design profession. With more than 70 papers classified in four tracks, PLDC is a unique event, worldwide.
VIA Publishing also organizes social events for the lighting community. The PLDA Celebration of Light is the largest event during the Luminale on the occasion of Light+Building in Frankfurt/D. The Luminale comprises more than 100 events. About 700 people meet to network and party at the Celebration of light, the top social event during the largest and most important fair for lighting internationally.
